Culture Gap Survey

Assess the Extent to which Norms and Values

Are Aligned with Organizational Goals

Created by Judd Allen, Ph.D. and Joe Manley, MFA

Purpose A lack of cultural alignment is an invisible barrier to sustained and positive results. The survey software coupled with Dr. Judd Allen's consulting support determines the alignment of cultural norms and values as they relate to your organization's mission or to specific program objectives.

The survey also brings to light the gap between current cultural norms and those that are desired by a culture's members. Such gaps undermine morale, performance and innovation. They also destroy organizational climate--the sense of community, shared vision and positive outlook in the culture.

The Culture Gap Survey software delivers immediate feedback to participants. The feedback increases awareness about the current and desired culture. In addition, survey feedback helps to close culture gaps by establishing clear culture change goals that are shared by members of the group or organization.

Features Dr. Judd Allen will work with you to develop a list of behavior that would reflect the ideal and desired culture. Virtually any issue can be incorporated into the survey including behavior implied in your mission statement and such organizational goals as productivity, customer service, teamwork, communication, trust, innovation, work-life balance, diversity and safety.

The Culture Gap Survey software utilizes these behavior statements to generate an Internet-enabled survey. The client creates passwords for the participant group(s) and then sends out an email invitation to participate. For each statement, participants indicate their level of agreement that the behavior is currently normal practice and their perspective about the desired culture. Those completing the survey receive immediate feedback on how the rest of their group has responded to the survey.

The Culture Gap Survey software is written with Macromedia Flash and results are stored in a Microsoft Access database. Statistical comparisons can be made between groups and over time.
