Greetings
from the President
Healthy Habits, Helpful Friends: How to Effectively Support
Wellness Lifestyle Goals is our latest book
title. Individual copies can be
ordered online
the Amazon.com publishing system. The book offers a
comprehensive approach to giving and getting effective peers support
for lifestyle changes. It serves as a text for the Wellness Mentor
Training. On demand publishing systems make it affordable to tailor
the book for our corporate, educational and health care clients. The
heart of the book is a step-by-step approach to supporting behavior
change. Topics include how to plan peer support sessions, setting
goals, eliminating barriers to change, identifying role models,
locating supportive environments, working through relapse and
celebrating success.
In 2008 we will be releasing a new book on the role of executives,
managers and wellness committees in creating healthy work
environments. Wellness Leadership: Creating Supportive
Environments for Health and More Productive Employees will have
chapters on creating a shared wellness vision, serving as effective
role models, aligning cultural influences and on monitoring as well
as celebrating success. Appendices will discuss legal issues related
to implementing wellness programs and feature case stories. The
authors will be Judd Allen, Ken Holtyn and Joe Leutzinger.
Over the coming months we hope to complete a new versions of the
Lifegain Health Culture Audit
and
Work Climate Survey
whereby those completing the survey online will receive a personal
report. The reports will interpret individual perceptions of
the culture and suggest strategies for working with the
culture. Past version of these survey provided aggregate reports
that were primarily used for planning and evaluation purposes.
Adding the personal reports will empower individuals to think about
their cultures in a constructive way.
We have recently released several white papers. Achieving a
Culture of Health was published by Health Enhancement Systems
(download
the PDF). A second white paper was reprinted in The American
Journal of Health Promotion's March/April 2008 issue. It is
entitled Working Together to Create Supportive Environments in
Worksite Health Promotion and was authored by Thomas Golaszewski,
Judd Allen and Dee Edington.
We welcome your input on these projects. I can be reached by email at JuddA@healthyculture.com
or by phone in Vermont at (802) 862-8855. My hope is that we will become
partners in creating healthier and more productive cultures.
To your health, Judd Robert Allen, Ph.D.
