Robert F. Allen Symbol of H.O.P.E. Award

Award Criteria

The Robert F. Allen Symbol of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Through Empowerment) Award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting cultural diversity within health promotion or who have demonstrated significant achievement in serving the health promotion needs of underserved populations. The purpose of this award is to: (1) reward those who have devoted their careers to serving underserved populations and promoting cross-cultural harmony, (2) disseminate innovative and effective strategies to do this, and (3) increase the attention directed toward these efforts within the health promotion community. 

The award is made in recognition of Robert F. Allen, founder of the Human Resources Institute, for his work in helping people to live harmoniously and achieving their greatest potential. 

About Us

Nominations and Selection Process
Award winners will be selected from nominations submitted by peers. Nominations should include the following information:

A cover letter with the name, address and telephone number of the person submitting the nomination and an additional person who is willing and able to comment on the nominee's achievements.

A one- to two-page description of the nominee's contributions or achievements in promoting cultural diversity within health promotion or meeting the health promotion needs of underserved populations, with specific examples of how the nominee has influenced and contributed in these areas. Nominations will be reviewed by an anonymous award committee.

Deadlines and Award Announcements
Nominations must be received by November 1 and the winner will be notified by January 31. An official announcement will appear in the March/April issue of the American Journal of Health Promotion.

Prizes
The award winner will receive a cash prize of $3,500, an expense-paid trip and fee waiver to attend the National Wellness Conference and a commemorative plaque.

This award is organized by the American Journal of Health Promotion. The cash award is made possible through grants provided by the California Wellness Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Allen family.
